Rising Oceans

My take on rising ocean levels...They have their theory, and I have mine to counter theirs but neither will be correct. I have two actually. Neither one of mine may not make any sense so I will put the one that could make more sense first before I lose your interest.

My first theory is based on the simple idea of the sun. Since the sun actually exists and we know what it does as far as put out heat and light I will use it.

The last few years have seen an amazing amount of solar activity. Since we have been monitoring solar flares and spikes, the last couple of years have produced the largest ones in recorded history. We have them logged on the discussion forum if you care to dig around for them. Since sun monitoring history is new compared to how long man has walked this planet, we really don't know what all of these high-powered solar spikes in this 11-year active sun cycle mean. We know it screws up communication and can cause blackouts and mess with my direct TV, but what else does it  mean for our planet? We can observe and make hypotheses. That would be an educated guess right? I think it has more than we can guess such as earthquakes as well, but that is another discussion.

So... I know that when you heat something up it expands. The little molecules that make up that substance get all excited and start moving faster and faster as more and more heat is applied. As they move faster they cause the substance they make up to expand. So if you have a large body of water that is able to absorb a tremendous amount of energy such as an ocean, and you whack it with a record number of solar flares, wouldn't that warm it up? And if it is warmed, wouldn't it expand? If it expands wouldn't it raise the levels on the coasts? In layman's terms the answer is a resounding "Duh". If the global warming people would have taken this approach I would have believed them. But there is something that isn't being reported.

There are several scientific reports of ocean levels falling. Yes you read that word correctly. It is funny how the mainstream media here in America seems to want to ignore that fact.  Falling ocean levels could mean three things. That water is freezing and the glaciers are growing or more evaporation is taking place and there is more moisture in the air or thirdly, both growing glaciers and more evaporation is happening. That would explain the record snow falls we have had recently wouldn't it? And all of the record breaking rain as well. I go with what i can observe. I have observed record breaking rains and record snowfalls. There must be more moisture in the air !!!!

Water has 1000 times the ability to trap and hold heat than any type of gas devised by man or nature. More moisture means more rain and more snow. Seems like we are heading towards an ice age, not global warming.

This makes more sense to me than what they are saying and I'm sure somebody will prove me wrong, but it's more convincing than what the global warming fear mongers are telling me.

O.k. now to my stupid theory and I'm not sure if anybody has even looked at it from this point of view but here goes...it would seem the ocean levels are going down, but it is still interesting to me in a wonderous sort of way how much stuff we have put into our oceans.

Trash. I know, oceans are so big that dumping stuff in them isn't going to amount to a hill of beans. But what if they trash piles are as big as Mt. Everest? What if every nation on the planet that had a navy at one time or another composed of trillions of tons of ships, sank them to make room for their new ones? What if the number of boats, ships, planes, oil rigs and whatever else through the history of mankind could be added up with all the cargo they had. What if we could just put that in a huge pile and determine how much water they displaced? What if all the barges they take out of New York full of trash and all the sewage we pump out into the oceans could be added to that same pile? What if all the volcanic material that erupts in the Pacific every day could be added to that same pile? Would the oceans rise 1 inch?

The Ocean Dumping Act of 1978, which was amended again in 1988, pretty much stopped most of the dumping of waste materials, trash, and sludge. There was almost a century of ocean dumping went on before those bans. That's a lot of trash out there. And the last sludge plant didn't stop pumping in New York until 1991. I'd like to know what they are still currently dumping and how much in metals and other things that do not fall under these restrictions.

I think this would be a great study for somebody that had access to that type of data and tried figure this one out.

The fact that oceans have been rising for the last 10,000 years is not arguable. They  were 500 ft lower than they are today. With plate slippage and sinking ground in some areas (Louisiana) there will be fluctuations in sea levels as well. Most ice is already in the ocean and you should understand Archimedes' principle so that you won't be too concerned about melting ice. The seas levels have not raised any faster than they have in the last 8000 years. To say CO2 is warming the planet and causing the ice to melt when this is wrong. The ice cores tell us that the temperature changed before the CO2 did.
